Asian Australian Alliance (AAA) held its third expert panel forum for the St George region community on the 10th November 2013. Joy Hopwood, a key note speaker eloquently addressed a crowd of 120 community leaders and individuals on the issue of a lack of diversity in commercial film and television in Australia, as well as contrast aspects with her own journey in becoming the first Asian Australian presenter for Playschool to having her own production company. Joy discussed her advocacy work and her passion and knowledge engaged the crowd.

Erin Chew (Convenor – Asian Australian Alliance)

“Joy Hopwood is one of the finest children and young adult speakers I have the honour of knowing. As a former host of Play School, she is especially excellent with primary aged children, and her Wong Side of Life puppet shows teach serious issues through humour and warmth and creativity. She has boundless energy and enthusiasm and a lovely, generous demeanour with kids. She’s a very professional but personable presenter with diverse experience and huge heart.”
Alice Pung (Author)
“Joy’s fantastic. She’s so flexible and very professional. I really enjoyed having her emcee for the International Women’s Day event. She turned up early and had workshopped the information and questions provided before sitting and running through with author Yassmin Abdel Magied, which was very helpful. She was also very good at engaging the audience to participate, and we love that she also shared on social media for us. We would 100% use her for that type of event again.”
